A big part of selling cosmetics is that you need an audience to show of your 15$ horse and transmogs. The purpose of the open world is to sell micro-transactions. If you’re on the same page as me, then you should understand when I say that I’m skeptical of hearing the word “open world” in Diablo 4. I hope that there is none of this in Diablo 4 as I feel this totally changes the classic ARPG experience we all know and love and turns it into some messy amalgamation of an MMORPG. I only play classic ARPGs like Diablo 2, 3 and PoE as an alternative to big title MMOs because I get sick of doing mindless and repetitive tasks and dealing with people shit because I’m forced to in order to enjoy & experience the content. My only problem with this MMORPG direction is the title name “Diablo”. Do I have to compete for rare mobs with other players while also relying on them to kill certain bosses? If the answer is yes, then this is also great if you enjoy MMORPGs. Without an interactive narrative, survival or creation being a reason in a classic ARPG, the only thing which comes to mind are things like rep/currency grinding from unchallenging side quests (marketing word for chore in a non-narrative) or hunting rare mobs. What makes this experience fulfilling in a game which centres around power progression? Why should I, the player, make the decision to “explore” (marketing word for travel) the same areas I’ve been to? From character builds and skills to lore and theories, we have it all covered.
